WGHS OGA-CANADA
The Wesley Girls’ Old Girls’ Association Of Canada (OGA-Canada) though formally inaugurated on July 1st 2018, was in existence since October 2015 with its primary mandate as to form a cohesive, nurturing and supportive sisterhood, to leverage individual and collective influences and talents to positively impact society and help our alma mater in impactful ways.
The Old Girls’ Association (OGA) connection is a constant reminder of where and how as Gey Girls we were shaped into becoming the women we are today.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The process of menstruation in females is not just a biological process but a process that can have major social and economical implications if maintaining proper menstrual hygiene to the wellbeing and productivity of women and girls is not adhered to. Poor menstrual health management can seriously affect the physical and mental health of a woman.
Access to menstrual products, is an integral and extremely important facet of Menstrual Hygiene Management, however, it is not in every part of the world that these products are easily accessible and affordable. In November 2020, Scotland, Great Britain became the first country to make menstrual products universally free of charge. The Ghana Education Service is also advocating the importance of good Menstrual Health Management.
The members of the Wesley Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association of Canada (OGA-Canada) recognizing that not all of its younger sisters are able to afford menstrual hygiene products; identified it as a dire need to invest in Menstrual Health and Hygiene, and the importance of maintaining a clean sanitized environment, especially amidst the pandemic hence the institution of the “TAKING CARE OF THE GIRLS PROJECT.”
They resolve to donate sanitary napkins, disinfectant and cleaning supplies to our alma mater periodically and were pleased to make their first donation.
